It was the perfect day. Gorgeous sunshine, not too hot, and not a rain cloud in sight. June 6th had been Glennie and Alex’s wedding day from the beginning of their planning, and after lots of more recent unknowns surrounding the current pandemic and considering postponing the wedding, they decided that they were ready to get married, no matter what plans would have to be adjusted! In Glennie’s words, “after thinking and praying for a few months, we’ve been preparing our hearts for this sacrament for awhile and don’t want to let corona perpetually postpone that, you know?! :)” I couldn’t agree more!
And Fr. Tom of St. Francis Xavier agrees too. He even commented in his homily, “Might as well get married now… gets you to your 50th anniversary sooner.” But silliness aside, Fr. Tom had some encouraging reminders for everyone gathered together about the truth and beauty of marriage. “Marriage is a sacramental covenant, one of self-sacrifice. Never keep score with each other, but pour yourself out for the other. The goal of marriage is to get the other to heaven.”
Because of the current restrictions, there was no congregational singing during the Mass, so Glennie sang all of the Mass parts herself. She went up to the ambo to sing the Psalm, and she sang the Salve Regina during their veneration of Mary. It had come up during their engagement session that she sings, so I expected that she had a great voice, but WOW I was blown away! She truly has a gift!! Even though it might not be a common practice for the bride herself to sing all these Mass parts, it was such a beautiful testament to their faith to participate so fully in the Mass.
We got to wrap up the afternoon together by taking some stunning images of Glennie and Alex as husband and wife!! They then joined their family and friends for an intimate backyard party to celebrate, and will be having their official reception later this year! (Stay tuned for another blog post for this awesome couple!!)
Glennie and Alex, it has been such an honor to serve you! I can’t wait for Part 2 of your wedding celebration!! Congratulations!!
